Scoop on Mark Stoeker

Name: Mark Stoecker

Office Held: Chief Communications Officer

When did I start running? Spring of 1999, a time when I became a father & sold our business the same month and tipped the scales at 236 lbs. The need for exercise was obvious. Weight and stress control. I started with walking and jogging with a couple friends, worked up to 3 4 mile, then 6 mile runs.

When did I join the Striders? Spring of 2006.

Why did I join the Striders? I was looking for a group of like minded crazy people that actually liketo run under all conditions. I became challenged to improve my running and take it to a different level after I ran the White Rock Half Marathon in 2005.

Best running moment: So far, The White Rock Marathon 2006. Great support from the Striders got me there. I wouldnt have made it without my runnin buddies. (especially those 5am - 20 milers ) I also remember vividly, famous phrases like, "Think of me as your rubber-band" and"Dont think of the pain, think of your favorite song". It kept me occupied through the pain. Thanks to Harry. After mile 22, it was pretty much a blur to the finish, but hey, its a first.

Best running tip: Sleep, hydrate & put in 4 good runs a week, the rest is down hill.

My personal mantra: Every days a victory.

Hometown: …… I live in Lantana, TX (lived in IA, then OK and now TX for 16 yrs.)

Family Info: My wife Carol and daughter Alexis, support my obsession with running.
